Our Church History

Three couples, including a church planting pastor and his wife, Bob and Karen Williams, began meeting in January 1989 for Bible study. During that year, they were joined by six more people who, like the original three couples, also wanted to start a vigorous church based on following Jesus Christ and ministering to the needs of others.

By November, the group started meeting for Sunday morning worship at a school building in Stonington. As the church grew in ministry, fellowship and attendance, it became clear that they should take a step of faith to purchase property on which they could construct a building. A piece of property with an existing building was purchased in 1995. That build- ing was converted into a church building and the ministry of the church began to expand greatly. By the year 2000, the existing sanctuary was constructed and the classrooms, fel- lowship hall, gymnasium and offices were added in 2004. The first Youth Pastor was called in 2005. Two nurseries were completed in 2011.

The many people who have attended Grace Fellowship church through the years have found great joy and a sense of fulfillment in their faith by developing ministries which encourage others to grow in Jesus Christ. The members of Grace Fellowship EFC also express their faith by helping people with various needs, both locally through service projects and in dis- tant locations through short-term mission trips. Our congregation is cross-generational with young families and mature believers alike. A significant number of military service personnel have attended Grace Fellowship church over the years. Grace Fellowship Evan- gelical Free Church exists to glorify Christ by helping others know, love and serve Him in our community and throughout the world.
